Abstract
We appreciate and thank the authors of the editorial for their comments. We agree that transperineal biopsy and prebiopsy rectal swab cultures both reduce biopsy-related infectious complications and minimize unnecessary antibiotic use compared to transrectal prostate biopsy with empiric prophylaxis (references 1 and 4 in their editorial). However, as the authors note, “the majority of urologists remain more familiar with the transrectal biopsy.” Our protocol is meant to help this majority.
