Abstract

Indwelling catheters (suprapubic cystostomy in particular) are widely used and at times an essential option in bladder management armamentarium after spinal cord injury. Our results are not meant to discount that in anyway. Although the downsides of chronic indwelling catheters are well recognized in the literature, their association with longevity, to best of our knowledge, was never investigated in a large longitudinal cohort. Our findings, despite strong association of indwelling catheters with lower survival, do not establish causality and merits further investigations in the future.
