Abstract
We would like to thank Dr Haywood for his editorial comments, and we agree with all the points he mentioned. The impact of positive surgical margins (PSM) on oncological outcomes of partial nephrectomy has been controversial and a subject of a great debate. We believe that this may have resulted in a generalized complacency and misconception that positive surgical margins in renal cell carcinoma may not be important and do not warrant any intervention. In this systematic review/metanalysis, we were able to demonstrate that PSM was associated with increased risk of recurrence, metastasis, and mortality.
