Abstract

We appreciate Shah et al.’s commentary on our manuscript exploring characteristics of US medical schools that produce applicants who successfully match into a urology residency.1 We found that the presence of a home urology program and pre-residency h-index are factors most associated with a successful match. Intuitively, students graduating from medical schools with a home urology program may be advantaged because of earlier exposure to the field and easier access to mentors and research opportunities.
