After the Soviet invasion, Rahimi fled to Pakistan, where he remained until receiving political asylum in France. After earning a doctorate in audiovisual communications at the Sorbonne, he directed documentaries and commercials for French television. Since 2000, he has publishedfournovels, including Earthand Ashes, which received several awards for its film adaptation in 2004. Rahimi received the Prix Goncourt last November for Stone of Patience?a novel that explores a woman's struggle to care for her husbandwho was paralyzedbya battle injury. Stone of Patience was written after his 2002 return to Afghanistan. Rahimi currently spends time in both Kabul and Paris.
