Abstract

Piezoelectric effect has been monitored and applied usually below the microwave frequencies. By propagation of the laser beam through α-quartz, diffraction fringes were observed in the transmitted beam spot. The diffraction fringes are produced by the dynamic gratings induced by the electromagnetic field of the incident light, namely an optical piezoelectric effect in α-quartz.
