Abstract
From detailed X-ray and microscopic analysis of three gravity cores and two piston cores, it is apparent that phillipsite continues to grow in the sediment column. The growth process can go to completion in 1·5 × 10 5 years, a time considerably shorter than previously reported. After initially rapid nucleation near the surface, the rate of formation appears to be constant with depth below the upper ten centimetres.
