Abstract

The article deals with the policy of Austria in 1853—1856. It is analyzed what factors influenced the change in the position of the Habsburg monarchy during the Crimean War.The author examines the diplomatic struggle of the Western powers and Russia for Austria:the pressure of Napoleon III on Vienna; the relationship between Nicholas I and Franz Joseph I; the activities of the Russian Ambassador A. M. Gorchakov at the Vienna conference, his relations with the Austrian foreign Minister K. F. Buol-Schauenstein.The author evaluates the results of the dual policy of Austria.
