Abstract

Tunnelling for the Australian national infrastructure has experienced a number of cycles in the post-war years, commencing with tunnelling for hydroelectric works. At present, road tunnelling is important, and microtunnelling is an emerging field. Sydney has become the focus of a substantial volume of civil underground construction. Current major projects under design or construction throughout Australia are described.
