Abstract

Abstract. Nine patients given heat‐treated (60 °C, for 10 h) human plasma protein solution (Plasmanate, PPS) developed antibody against Australia antigen (Au antibody), while none of the patients manifested either Australia antigen (Au antigen) or clinical hepatitis. It is conceivable that Au antigen present in PPS was deprived of its infectivity but retained its antigenicity. Au antibody developed early in 7 of 9 patients after the first infusion. Of those, 4 patients showed high Au antibody titers of 8–32. Au antibody persisted from 4 to 82 days in 8 patients and for 74 weeks in the remaining one.
