Abstract

The aim of this article is to investigate Turks' perception of themselves in the Greek collective memory. Along with this, the prejudice Turks encounter against themselves, which they find difficult to understand, is also put under the scope. Therefore Greek National History Thesis and the text books, where the reminiscence of an imagined community is formed, create the scope of this study. Consequently, this study explores the reasons and the means Greek society resorts in contemplating its history. In the same vein, impact of the Earthquake of August'99 on the image of OtherlTurk in Greek collective memory is also inauired.
