Abstract

Sensilla of the cibarium, beginning at the base of the labrum and extending proximally through the stomodaeum, were examined in both female and male Aedes vexans (Meigen) collected from Wayne Co., WV in June of 2016. Two types of sensilla were observed; (1) setiform, and (2) basiconic. Both forms of sensilla were aggregated in the distal region of the cibarium surrounding a hard palate, with the basicones being medially positioned and the setiforms lateral. Additionally, two pairs of basiconic sensilla were consistently observed in the proximal end (i.e., stomodaeum) of the cibarium in every individual examined.
