Abstract

Speaking to Aula Abbara at a coffee shop in the leafy area of St James Park, London, it is clear a passion for social justice is the theme that has connected all the dots in her life. So it was no surprise she became a doctor, or that she would eventually find herself working with refugees and other vulnerable populations in various parts of the world or that she would choose to specialise in infectious diseases. Today, Abbara is a consultant clinician in infectious diseases at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, UK where she is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and teaches Global and Public Health at the University. She has also worked with multiple aid agencies delivering humanitarian relief and now works part time for Médecins Sans Frontières as an infectious diseases and malaria advisor.
