Abstract
Through consideration of the death of the Indian Zarmanochegas at the Mysteries of 19 B.C.E. (Dio 54.9.10), a death strongly evocative of an incident in the reign of Alexander the Great, this paper examines the deployment of Alexander's memory for the articulation of Augustus' power to a Greek audience.
