Abstract

This article is an introduction to five case study reports that illustrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions with adults who have severe communication disorders that are acquired. Issues common to the AAC management of a variety of adults with acquired communication disorders are reviewed. In addition, unique AAC issues for persons with amytrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, brain injury, and stroke are highlighted.
