Abstract

Nipple Areola Complex (NAC) reconstruction is an essential component of breast reconstruction procedure for improving patient satisfaction and restoring body image. Loss of nipple projection over time is commonly seen post breast reconstruction, irrespective of technique used. Loss of projection is often managed by either over compensating at the time of primary NAC reconstruction or using additional augmentation procedures at the time of secondary or tertiary NAC reconstruction. The authors describe a novel technique of using Artecoll (polymethylmethacrylate microspheres suspended in bovine collagen) in the form of injectable filler for patients with inadequate nipple projection following failed local flap procedures.
