Abstract

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will apply from 25 May 2018. As from this day the GDPR will be the backbone of Data Protection in Europe. Supervisory authorities will play a significant role in making the GDPR work. The EU-legislator entrusted the Supervisory Authorities with several crucial tasks, among them mutual assistance in cross-border cases, dealing with complaints of data subjects and the possibility to impose administrative fines or other corrective measures. This article deals with tasks and powers of Supervisory Authorities and their role in the whole context of the GDPR.
