Abstract

In Reply.— We appreciate the comments of Shapiro and Hecox regarding our article. Their primary concerns relate to the methodologic and analytic aspects of our study. 1. Auditory nerve and brainstem response patterns obtained by "logon" stimulus differ significantly from those by "click" stimulus; although interpeak latencies in these two instruments generally agree, absolute latencies do not. This is caused by start time definition. The preferred "time zero" is the instant that the stimulus pulse impacts on the tympanic membrane with the instrument Teledyne TA-1000.
