Abstract

This is a review of the literature on the topic of nursing audit in order to understand the audit process and its interfaces with nursing care. To achieve the proposed objective held a review of published health magazine in Virtual Health Library (VHL) and the Bibliographic Database of the University of Sao Paulo global online catalog (DEDALUS), from 2001 to 2010, and 16 selected items. data were grouped into three categories: History of the audit and its legislation in the context of health in Brazil, Audit and quality of nursing and The role of the nurse auditor: Progress and Challenges. In the data revealed that the nursing audit aims to improve the quality of care while reducing costs by linking the financial values to qualitative values and the nurse is the most qualified and qualified for this role of auditor
