Abstract

Abstract A laxative policy was introduced at Charing Cross hospital, London, which recommended co-danthrusate and co-danthramer as first line treatment for constipation in the elderly. As a result of this policy the prescribing of lactulose was virtually eliminated and the use of phosphate enemas fell significantly.
