Abstract

Au nanoparticles decorated ZnO nanoarrays have been successfully synthesized by a facile, low-temperature hydrothermal route. Scanning electron microscopy images of the products reveal that the ZnO nanoarrays are coated with Au nanoparticles. The XPS spectra suggested that the Au species are present in the metallic state. A low turn-on electric field of 3.2V/μm and a high field enhancement factor of about 3415 for Au nanoparticles decorated ZnO nanoarrays ensure the superior electron field emission behavior compared to bare ZnO nanoarrays. In addition, Au nanoparticles decorated ZnO nanoarrays show enhanced optical absorption property in the visible region.
