Abstract

Case report: A 42-year-old woman presented to our Ultrasound Unit with a history of fever (body temperature 37.9°C), arthralgia, xerophthalmia, left parotid enlargement and pain over the last two months. Conventional ultrasound showed that the left parotid gland increased in size with multiple hypo- and iso-echoic areas and high-velocity flow on Color Doppler sonography. Laboratory tests were negative for bacterial and viral infections, and an empirical antibiotic treatment had no efficacy. Chest x-ray and abdominal ultrasound were both negative.
