Abstract

Periorbital rhinosporidiosis (PR) is an aquatic protistan parasitic infection that commonly affects mucous membranes of the nasal cavity. This report presents a case of PR mimicking a low-flow vascular malformation (VM) that was later diagnosed as an atypical case of PR. A 48-year-old male presented with a painless mass medially below the right eye’s lower lid, which progressively increased in size. Initial examination suggested a low-flow VM. However, histopathological analysis of the biopsy specimen confirmed the presence of rhinosporidiosis with features such as arteriovenous malformation. There is a need for a multidisciplinary approach to manage such cases.
