Abstract
Introduction: Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) are rare low-grade malignant cutaneous tumours. These tumours are dermally based, circumscribed, tend to be ulcerated, and are typically solitary. AFXs tend to occur in solar damaged skin on elderly individuals. The cytology of these tumours can be alarming, with neoplastic cells showing moderate to severe pleomorphism, epithelioid to spindled forms, and often atypical mitotic figures. A range of histologic variants have been described in the literature, including clear cell, myxoid, pigmented, and plaque like.
