Abstract

Attributes of informal settlements affectig their vulerability to eviction: a study of Bangkok's Informal settlements considers what makes an informal or illegal settlement in Bangkok susceptible to eviction by comparing characteristics ofthose settlements from which inhabitants were evicted between 1984 and 1988 with settlements which were not. It considers the extent to which such factors as the size of settlement, distance from city centre, age, level of illegality, degree of community organization, and the extent to which the inhabitants feel threatened by eviction are related to whether the inhabitants are evitced or not.
