Abstract
In this paper, we examine the force between two YBCO trapped field magnets which initially attract each other. Two different cases have been studied: a rod and a ring, and, for comparison, the simpler geometry of two disks. In both cases, the magnets were first field cooled separately, and then the force was measured as one was moved toward the other. Nonuniform current density was found to have a strong effect on the force-distance curve. A model has been developed which includes computation of the current distribution within the magnets.
