Abstract

It has been shown before [1] that two large molecular systems having low-lying giant dipole vibrations may interact through strong long-range forces. This paper deals with the influence of a polar medium with Debye dispersion on this interaction between the molecules. It is shown that besides the normal van der Waals attraction also repulsion can occur, but this only in a limited range of the molecular eigenfrequencies just above the characteristics relaxation frequency τ −1 of the medium.
