Abstract

Summary Forty female subjects were reinforced by a liked or disliked person in a verbal conditioning experiment. Liking for the reinforcing person had only marginal effects on performance levels, but rates of responding were significantly higher for those in the high-attraction condition. The results are interpreted in terms of an expectancy notion of interpersonal attraction.
