Abstract

The investigator has tried to study the Attitude of Undergraduate Girls towards Eve Teasing in relation to their locality and educational streams. A sample of 100 girl students of graduation final year was selected by using simple random sampling technique. Eve Teasing scale for girls (ESG) developed and standardized by Deepa Ghose was used for the data collection. As a result no significant difference was found in mean scores of Attitude of Undergraduate girls with respect to their locality and educational streams. Violence against women has become one of the most visible and articulated social problems around the world. It is a critical human rights and development issue. Being a universal phenomenon, it takes different forms in different socio cultural and religious contexts. The United Nations General Assembly defines “violence against women” as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life”. Eve teaching is an attitude, a mindset, asset of behavior that is construed of the female sex eve teasing is considered as a growing problem throughout the subcontinent that ranges in severity from sexually colored remarks to outright grouping. It includes stares, comment or remarks, verbal abuse, suggestive song's lyrics typically targeted the at the girl in question, an masturbation or an act of exposing one's genitals etc…..largely, the boys +superficially use the term eve teasing. The girls too consider ever teasing to be a something regular occurrence. Overall, the youths identify it as a means to gratify one's delight. It fine for those who accept eve teasing lightly, but a majority of the girls are badly affected both physically and psychologically.
