Attitude Of Students Of Federal University Of Technology Owerri Towards Agriculture As A Professional Career

Abstract

The paper analyzed the attitude of students of federal university of technology Owerri towards a career in Agriculture with a view to understanding the effect on future manpower needs for Nigeria Agricultural Development. Fifty final year student were randomly selected from the five departments in the school of Agric and Agricultural technology (SAAT). Data were collected with the aid of questionnaire. Data analyses were achieved using simple descriptive statistics as percentages frequency tables, mean and ranking. results of the study shows that majority (68%) of the undergraduate were within the age bracket of 21 and 25 years old and had urban background. There was a significant relationship among the Attitude of Agricultural undergraduates towards a career in Agriculture and their socio – economic and farm related characteristics at 5% level of significance. There is need for and adequate reorientation programmes for youths especially the agricultural undergraduate towards making a career in agriculture as well as professionalizing agriculture thereby as a professional careerKey Words: Attitude Of Students Of Federal University Of Technology
