Abstract

Information and communication technology (ICT) is an important element in the education scenario in order to prepare the citizens for the future. The quality of teaching is often related to the use of ICT in teaching and learning. Higher education plays a pivotal role in the development of a country, as it is viewed as a powerful means to build knowledge-based society. Hence, the present study was designed to analyse the attitude, knowledge and extent of utilization of ICT tools. The present study was conducted in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu state. A sample size of 120 teaching staff and postgraduate students was selected for this study by using a proportionate random sampling method. A well-structured and pretested questionnaire was used for data collection. Suitable statistical tools were used to analyse the data. The salient findings of this study indicated that majority of the staff and students had favourable attitude towards ICT and the positive attitude statements received highest mean scores and negative attitude statements received optimum mean scores. The overall knowledge level of staff and students regarding ICT tools was found to be medium. The extent of utilization of ICT tools was also found to be medium by the staff and students.
