Abstract

In this study, a new empirical attenuation relationships model is developed for horizontal peak ground acceleration (PGA) and 5% damped response spectral acceleration (PSA) from northwestern of Turkey earthquakes. The equations give ground motion in terms of moment magnitude, distance and site conditions for strike-slip faulting mechanism. In the analyses, 415 horizontal peak ground acceleration records taken from 107 earthquakes (M 4.0 to 7.4) that occurred since 1983 in the region (40-42oN and 26-32oE) are evaluated. Distance is defined as the minimum distance to the rupture plane, rrup. Local site conditions are defined by average velocity of shear-wave (VS30) in the upper 30 m of the recording stations.
