Abstract

Gastroparesis is a common motility disorder that afflicts up to 58% of patients who are diabetic.1,2 Presenting symptoms of diabetic gastroenteropathy include dysphagia, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and fecal incontinence. These symptoms substantially impact quality of life for up to one third of patients and can influence productivity and employment.3 Injection of botulinum toxin A into the pyloric sphincter has been suggested as a treatment for diabetic gastroparesis.
