Abstract
The attenuation of elastic surface waves is investigated on one and two dimensional rough surfaces whose the root mean square - or roughness - h varies from 8.5 to 90 μm. These values satisfy the condition of validity of the perturbation theory model e = h/λ R « 1 developed by A.G. Eguiluz and A.A. Maradudin [Phys. Rev. B - 28, 728–747 (1983)] The experimental results and the theoretical calculations show a reasonably good agreement and confirms the frequency dependence of the attenuation for low values of ka (a represents the autocorrelation length).
