Abstract

Background: Existing animal models of pacing-induced heart failure are often associated with high acute (1-3 weeks) mortality secondary to very high pacing frequencies. We speculated whether lower frequency pacing for longer time intervals (11 weeks) would produce a chronic heart failure model with reduced acute mortality, and displaying pronounced structural, functional, and electrical remodeling.
