Abstract

A method was developed to quantify, without extraction, anthocyanin color expression and chlorophyll content in leaves of clones of Corylus. The method utilizes attenuance spectroscopy and non-parametric statistical analysis to rank in vivo leaf color. Comparisons with extraction procedures are made and inherent advantages with respect to color expression (versus extracted anthocyanin) and rapidity of measurement are discussed.
