Abstract

There has recently been much media exposure of a ‘condition’ variously called Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which has caused many parents to consult professionals who know about children. It is very familiar to such professionals; it covers a range of child behaviour that has worried adults since time immemorial. It is a clinical term for the sort of fidgety, over-active, impulsive behaviour and inability to concentrate that affects most children at some point in their lives some of the time, and a few children most of the time, and since they were quite little.
