Abstract
The purpose of the article is to study the central images of heroes in Ukrainian cinema fromthe time of independence until today. The methodology of the research is based on the application of historical and cultural approaches, methods of comparative analysis, comparison, and generalization, which allowed to analyze the main trends in the visualization of heroes' images inUkrainian cinematography during the designated period. Such interdisciplinary permittedmethodology to reveal the main chronological and value-semantic features of the heroic pictures inthe national cinema. The scientific novelty consists in an attempt to expose the central tendencies inthe construction of heroic images in Ukrainian cinema during the period of independence.Conclusions. We can distinguish three main trends in the design of heroes in the cinema: theactualization of historical figures of the anti-Soviet direction, the romanticization of the Cossackmyth, the heroization of modern warriors. All of them have the own characteristics and sociohistorical conditioning.Key words: hero, visualization, cinematography, image design.
