Abstract

The level of hypophyseal hormones in white rats was studied after four and one half months application of 0.1 and 0.01 LD 50 Zineb (zinc ethylene bisdithiocarbamate) by means of biological determination of the gonadotropc hormone (GTH) by the method of Segaloff, and the thyrotropic hormone (TTH) by the radiologic method of Querido et al., modified by Milanov. Some morphological investigations of the adenohypophysis were done to supplement the study. The data obtained indicated the increase of both the thyrotropic and gonadotropic hypophyseal functions. Bearing in mind the specific antithyroid action and elective damaging effect of dithiocarbamate on the gonads, it is suggested that the functional and morphological adenohypophyseal changes described here serve to compensate the disturbed hormonal balance after application of this compound.
