Abstract
This article provides an overview of the evolutionary application of attachment theory from an individually-based psychoanalytic approach to a systems-based interactive approach. The authors describe the original key concepts of attachment theory, and support previous research that suggests that attachment theory provides a sound conceptual framework for assessing family interactions. Additionally, the authors suggest that this shift in focus is not an alteration of Bowlby's original theory, but rather a more precise and comprehensive application of it.
