Abstract

Usual above-knee prosthetic legs prescribed to above-knee amputees are composed of springs and dampers; transfemoral amputees are restricted in daily movement such as stairs ascent and descent. The Attachable Cybernic Unit is able to be attached with the prosthetic leg, and operate the prosthetic leg. The purpose of this study is to develop the Attachable Cybernic Unit to operate the prosthetic leg and to confirm the basic capability of the device by the evaluations of stair ascent and descent test. We developed the Attachable Cybernic Unit that can operate without strictly adjustment of the rotation axes of the prosthetic knee and the unit, by using thigh socket cuff. For the evaluation of the basic movements, we conducted stair ascent experiment and stair descent experiment. By the stair ascent experiment, we confirmed that the user was able to ascend steps as able-bodied person with the system and the prosthetic leg. In the stair descent experiment, the user was able to descent steps as able-bodied person with the system and the prosthetic leg. In conclusion, we developed a system that can operate prosthetic knee and confirmed the basic capability of the device.
