Abstract

Naval Engineers JournalVolume 79, Issue 2 p. 199-204 ATS 1 MACHINERY DESIGN R. V. VITTUCCI, R. V. VITTUCCI R. V. VITTUCCI is a graduate of Cornell University with M.E. and M.M.E. degrees, most of whose career has been devoted to Marine Engineering. He began in 1936 at the American Gas and Electric Company, New York City, designing central power stations. Later he taught at the University of Texas where he published a “Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Manual.” He came to the Navy Department Bureau of Ordnance in 1941 and transferred shortly afterward to the Bureau of Ships as a Marine Engineer where he progressed through various technical areas including Mine Countermeasures, Standardization, Preliminary Design and Contract Design. In the latter position he was Machinery Design Coordinator with the new 20 knot LST, the new PGM 84 Class gunboats with CODAG drive, all Navy boats, and various auxiliary ships including the new Salvage Tug ATS-1. In 1946 he left the Bureau for additional industry experience with E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company where he specialized in power plant design and industrial engineering, returning three years later to the Bureau of Ships. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in both the District of Columbia and the State of Delaware, and is a member of ASNE, ASME, and several other professional societies. He is currently on the management staff at Headquarters, Naval Material Command in the Exploratory Development Division as Program Officer.Search for more papers by this author R. V. VITTUCCI, R. V.
