Abstract

As in the general population, atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia affecting people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However AF is approximately 5 times more frequent with HCM. International guidelines include recommendations for screening HCM patients for undetected AF, with varying rigor. Screening rhythm monitoring in this high-risk group undergoing open cardiac surgery should be considered.
