Abstract

Summary
Atrial fibrillation is reported in a 14-year-old boy with juvenile hyperthyroidism, who also developed congestive heart failure and mitral regurgitation. The atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure responded to treatment with digitalis, diuretics, quinidine, and antithyroid therapy. The murmur of mitral regurgitation resolved after the hyperthyroidism was brought under control. Hyperthyroidism should be included in the differential diagnosis of the pediatric patient with unexplained atrial fibrillation and unexplained congestive heart failure.
