Abstract

Abstract 1. 1. ATP stimulation of methane formation in cell extracts of hydrogen-grown Methanobacterium strain M.o.H. has been studied. 2. 2. Less than one ATP molecule is broken down per molecule of methane produced. 3. 3. Resynthesis of ATP by the cell-free extract is to show to account for this lack of stoichiometry. 4. 4.Wnen cell-free extracts are producing methane at a maximal rate after ATP addition, the depletion of ATP by a hexokinase trap does not stop methane synthesis.
