Abstract

SynopsisWe suggest and discuss a method for precise measurement of ultrahigh laser intensities in the 1020 – 1024W/cm2 range of intensities. The method is based on the observation of multiple sequential tunneling ionization of heavy atoms in the focus of an intense laser beam. It can be of use for probing electromagnetic fields of record power expected to achieve at new multi-petawatt laser facilities.
