Abstract
Abstract Vanadium produced a measureable ground state atom population by using the Kniseley burner and optimizing operating conditions. A fuelrich oxy-acetylene flame was required, with an alcohol-water solvent system and careful optical alignment through the flame. Flame profile studies indicated regions of maximum ground state population. Interference studies in the range O–1000 ug/ml interfering ion concentration (vanadium concentration was 20 ug/ml) indicate extensive interference effects. Al, Bi, Cr, Fe, K, Li, Sb, Ti, Zn all produced interference effects as well as acetate and phosphate ions.
