Abstract

The atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene and methyl methacrylate with α,α-dichlorotoluence (DCT) as initiator results in the respective chlorotelechelic polymers. From a kinetic point of view, however, the polymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate show a different behavior: for the polymerization of styrene DCT is a bifunctional, for the polymerization of methyl methacrylate it is a monofunctional initiator.
