Abstract

AbstractHerein, we describe a photocatalyzed atom‐transfer radical addition (ATRA) reaction using a heteroleptic copper(I) complex bearing a bipyridyl‐based NN ligand and a 2,2′‐bis(diphenylphosphino)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl (BINAP) based PP ligand. The selected heteroleptic complex was [Cu(BINAP)(cup)](PF6), which was used because of its intense absorption in the visible region and its long excited‐state lifetime. The reported copper photocatalyzed reactions of olefins with carbon tetrabromide afford the products in moderate‐to‐excellent yields under irradiation with a 3 W, 400 nm light emitting diode (LED).
