Abstract

Atom probe field ion microscopy (APFIM) investigations on antiphase boundaries and super dislocations in B2 ordered NiAl alloys containing 2 at% Cr have been performed. An a/2(111){123} antiphase boundary was detected in the nickel-rich Ni 50 Al 48 Cr 2 alloy which possessed segregation of Cr atoms in higher local concentration. Cr atoms show a strong site preference for the aluminium sublattice of NiAl. Therefore, Cr atoms are substituting for Al atoms. The Gibbsian interfacial excess is calculated. Super dislocations have been imaged without any significant Cr enrichment. No dissociation into partial dislocations was detected due to the high antiphase boundary energy. The results are discussed in view of literature data.
